Thank you!

I have entertained two generations of little girls with my version of the story, a relatively accurate rendition of the Fairport version, omitting the abortifacient and adding an elaborate wedding and happily-ever-after, essential in stories for little girls, of course. I had never heard of the ballad, and was surprised and delighted to find that the setting was Selkirk in the Scottish borders, my Grandfather's birthplace. I visited Scotland for the first time in May - my daughter and I did a brief tour of the borderlands, but did not hear of this lovely story. Parts of the Border lands certainly do feel like an enchanted landscape, particularly near water, so it's no surprise that belief in the Queen of Fairies was widespread in the old days. The tide coming in on holy Island on a fine summer's evening, when you've got the place almost to oneself, is one of the most beautiful sights in the British Isles.william watesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6268906151061835777.post-50078079666226440782013-02-18T13:55:33.495+00:002013-02-18T13:55:33.495+00:00Thank you very much!Thank you very much!Jennhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08979541944282006692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6268906151061835777.post-53815898887855729612013-02-14T19:32:10.570+00:002013-02-14T19:32:10.570+00:00Hiya Jenn, I'm glad my blog has helped with yo...Hiya Jenn, I'm glad my blog has helped with your research.
